April 2011 Employee Spotlight

Jason Rodriguez - Internet Sales Consultant
Handy Chevrolet - April 2011 Employee Spotlight of the Month

It should come as no surprise that during the time of rejuvenation such as spring in VT that Handy Chevrolet did a little--shall we say--spring cleaning (?).  In order to supplement the ever changing or ever-strengthening progressive stance that our store is taking with regards to growth, we deemed it necessary to add yet another Internet Sales Consultant to the already dynamic performance of last month's Employee Spotlight, Marc Grenier.  Truth be told, a record-setting month for our dealership didn't hurt either.

Enter New Jersey native Jason Rodriguez, Internet Sales Consultant and overly qualified employee at that, the newest member of a growing franchise, team, and family, and this month's spotlight member.

As I said, Jason was born in New Jersey, but that doesn't mean he suffers from some of the trifling qualities us mountain-folk find so odd of the flatlanders.  Jason has lived in Vermont since 2004, and he has quickly become what some might call a "typical Vermonter:"  Jason loves to snowboard, ride all-terrain vehicles, four-wheelers, and the like, and his favorite pastimes include going outside for some good old fashioned hunting and fishing.

My first question for Jason was actually the last for most, that being what car he dreams about day in and day out and the one to which he's most akin.  The answer, from a reporting standpoint, was simplistic in nature but full of the complexities of an urbanite used to a more metropolitan area:  "Honestly, Chris," Jason tells me, "the dream car--that is if I could take any new Chevrolet home today--would definitely be the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.  And like the ZR1, it's fast, it won't quit, and..." he pauses and chuckles, before finishing with "... the ladies love 'em!"  So far from what I've learned of Mr. Rodriguez, this quaint sense of humor fits him to a T.  As far as that which he's most like, Jason says he is like a Jeep Wrangler in that "it's multi-talented, it can tow a lot of weight, especially for its size, and though it's simple in design it's fun to drive and built for purpose."

Aside from a talent in Chevrolet and used car sales, Jason is, as he puts it (and I got a legitimate chuckle out of this) a "Jay of all trades."  Jason is incredibly handy, housing mechanical, working knowledge of just about anything he sets his mind to.  In fact, he claims very little of anything he owns is "standard" and that it's all custom made:  computers, golf clubs, unique upgrades to his four-wheeler, and even his Wrangler has some customizations.  It seems as though Jason would have been equally well suited in the field of engineering, construction, or architecture, but to him it's all about doing what he loves, and that is meeting people and getting them in their dream Chevy or used car.

When you find him at home relaxing or romping around the Vermont fields on his four-wheeler, popping in Jason's ear buds or headphones will surely result in a loud raucous of hip hop or rock music.  "I LOVE music," Jason exclaims, "especially these two genres.  I mean really, I love music!  I know everyone loves their music, but I love all aspects, especially going to live shows in Burlington--that's the best."  Also an avid poker player, Jason claims he's very good at Texas Hold 'em and can be found with buddies playing every weekend to unwind.  Another thing that relieves some tension and quells the weeks aggravations:  UFC fighting (a mixed martial arts league), yet another interest of our newest Internet team member.

A final note worth mentioning is the fact that this guy is perhaps one of the most generous I've ever met, and perhaps I'm doing him a disservice by placing this as a footnote.  Jason loves to help build houses for Habitat for Humanity, and he also voluntarily put together the local chapter's website for them.  "I don't even have my own house!" he jokes, but continued that he is more than fortunate and simply adores helping those who need it.

I'm going out on a limb here as I clearly don't know what the future will bring, but it seems as though the Handy Chevrolet family has earned the rights to yet another bright mind, caring soul, and generally good person, something that fits well within the puzzle that makes our team.  For more on Jason Rodriguez, stop into our 699 Highgate Road location in St. Albans
and have a chat with the newest member of the family or just send him an email at jasonr@sover.net, and keep your eyes open for next month's employee spotlight for May 2011!
