May 2011 Employee Spotlight

Bobbi Tatro - Parts & Service Director
May 2011 Employee Spotlight

Automotive dealerships come and automotive dealerships go.  In fact, the qualifier "auto dealership" doesn't even really apply, because in all truth all types of businesses come and go.  But in that lifecycle of the American pursuit of happiness that is owning one's business or climbing the corporate ladder, businesses like Handy Chevrolet that are clearly in it for the long haul thanks to sound management, skilled and dedicated staff members, and an ever-broadening array of tools for the customer to use and learn, some businesses are destined to grow beyond their current capacities.  And that's what Handy Chevrolet's just done.

For that, we called upon the skilled parts and service director named Bobbi Tatro who took upon herself that very namesake in Handy Chevrolet's GM Certified Service center, and her first move was to learn--something she has done for years and years and years.

"I was lucky when I entered the car business," Bobbi tells me.  "My father, my two brothers, a brother-in-law... they were all in the car business.  Ten years ago I could hardly fill up my car with gas, but they helped me learn every inch of fixed operations [parts and service] and helped me get to be the person I am today."  Bobbi went on to tell me that there was a short while in fact where she and all her familial teachers were housed under the same auto dealership in Burlington, something I bet not many dealerships or employees can say.

Bobbi, currently a resident in Winooski, VT, was born in Vermont and lived here most of her life.  She also spent a good chunk of her adult life in Plattsburgh, New York where she served and was stationed in the Armed Forces.  Spending most of her time as a Military Police officer on and around the Plattsburgh, NY Air Force base, Bobbi then became a Police Officer when she had served her tour in the Air Force.  Between the two career moves, Bobbi Tatro has spent over 7 years as a policewoman for either the Air Force or the civilian world, meaning this gal has seen some hard times for sure; oddly, her sunny disposition would never make you think "cop," if anyone can assume such things with any certainty that is.

As with any employee in the spotlight, the typical questions had to be asked:  what is Bobbi's dream car and what Chevrolet is she most like.  Her response was right in line with her employee bio, by which she said her dream car was the Chrysler PT Cruiser.  as for the car she's most like, she had this to say:

"Well I would have said the PT Cruiser, but I'm a Chevy woman now, aren't I?  So I guess I'll go with the 2011 Chevy HHR Super Sport.  It's small but rugged, and though it has plenty of power it can also be graceful.  Yes, I am the Chevy HHR in lieu of the Cruiser, I guess!"

When Ms. Tatro isn't peddling high quality GM and Chevrolet parts or helping to keep her GM Certified Service team glued together, she can be found spending time with her family.  "Just so my kids know," she says with a grin, "in my staff biography I mentioned wanting them out of the house.  I love them, but you know--I just want them gone as in healthy, grown up, mature, and responsible."  Better yet, Bobbi is on the eve of her first grandchild, marking an early entry into grandmotherhood that doesn't suit the young face before you.

Though only a newbie at the Handy Chevrolet Service department, don't take Bobbi for a fool.  In no time flat she's already moved ahead with several game plans to augment your GM Certified Service experience at Handy Chevrolet including the following:

  • New service hours - Bobbi has mandated the additional Saturday work day for the service team, starting June 4, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  •
  • Specials - she has already gone through our website and is in the process, within our first meeting, of developing MORE specials; in other words she's opening up to the idea of "Handy-exclusive" specials as opposed to national incentives put forth by GM
  •
  • New service menu - though this is naturally in my realm as far as design and coding, Bobbi's made sure to crack the proverbial whip in my direction when it comes to service menus on the website.

And these are only some of the current initiatives that, as stated, were mentioned in our first 40 minute meeting!  Just imagine what this woman will be doing in a year's time when she's pushed forth the new and ousted the old!
