| Transfer Case Service | $99.95 | ![]() |
First and foremost, does your Chevrolet vehicle have a transfer case? Well, is it four-wheel drive (4WD or 4X4) or all-wheel drive (AWD)? If you answered no to this and you're sure you have a front-wheel drive (FWD) or rear-wheel drive (RWD) or you're at least sure it's two-wheel drive of some sort, then you do not have a transfer case. A transfer case controls the amount of power each wheel gets: in a 4WD vehicle it basically sends equal
amounts of power to each, whereas in an AWD drivetrain it sends varying degrees of power to each wheel.
Similar to what we discussed in the differential service and transmission fluid flush service pages, the transfer case houses gear fluid to keep everything cool, lubricated, and working properly. During Handy Chevrolet's Certified Service transfer case service, we flush this gear box fluid and clean said gears. We also put the gears through a cooling procedure that makes them last longer.
Now that you know the procedure, it's probably evident that, if you want your 4WD or AWD Chevrolet to continue getting you through the tough Vermont winters or Vermont trails, you'll need this done from time to time - generally around 30,000 to 60,000 miles depending on your GM vehicle (refer to your Owner's Manual for exact mileage).
