What is AutoTrader's Trade-In Guarantee?

Thanks to an exclusive between HandyCars.com, Handy Chevrolet, and AutoTrader.com, we are in the unique position to be able to guarantee--that's right guarantee--that the total shown on your AutoTrader Trade-In slip will be the amount you get towards your new vehicle, your leased vehicle, or the total you'll receive in the event that you are simply selling the vehicle to us.

The way AutoTrader's guarantee works is that you, the customer, click the icon as seen above.  This icon also resides on our home page, on every vehicle listing page, as well as every vehicle's detail page, making it as easy as can be to find.  Basically, anywhere you see the icon as shown above, click said icon and you will be sent directly to Handy Chevrolet's dedicated AutoTrader Trade-In form, ensuring that your vehicle information will go directly to a Handy Sales Consultant.  It's just one more way for Handy Chevrolet to educate our most important asset--you, the customer--so when you come into our showroom you will have the peace of mind that we are trying to get you into your dream vehicle, not take advantage of you as some places are known to do.

To distill the AutoTrader guarantee into a concise set of instructions, basically the process is as follows:

  1. Click on the AutoTrader.com Instant Trade-In Offer (Click Here) icon.
  2. The potential customer will be directed to Handy Chevrolet's tradein.autotrader.com webpage; on this page your information will only go to Handy Chevrolet personnel.
  3. The customer fills in as much information as possible.  Remember, the more accurate your information is the more accurate your quote will be!
  4. The quote, which will pop up on your browsing window, will be sent to AutoTrader.com for approval and will thus get their stamp of approval.
  5. AutoTrader will email you a copy of the report as well as Handy Chevrolet.  Everything you put in, Handy Chevrolet will see.
  6. You will have 72 hours to come into Handy Chevrolet to use the guaranteed trade-in for a down payment on a purchase or lease, or as if you are simply looking to sell a vehicle, you can do so as well.
  7. When you come into Handy Chevrolet, we (your Sales Consultant and yourself) will each take our sheets--again, our print-out will match yours perfectly--and we will inspect the vehicle in question.
  8. If there are any differences during the appraisal, we will sit down with you and resubmit a form to AutoTrader together.
  9. The new quote, agreed upon by both of us, will also be guaranteed for 72 hours should you need time to consider.

The brilliance of this program is that it takes any mistrust out of the equation.  In regards to your trade-in, you no longer have to worry about the Dealer in fact--AutoTrader will buy your vehicle at the agreed upon price in the event of any problems!  As automotive dealers, we are aware of the stigma many people have in regards to our industry.  The new program from AutoTrader makes it that much easier to trust your local Chevrolet dealer.  And as stated, since Handy Cars is the only place in Vermont where you can obtain this guarantee, including Burlington and the greater Burlington area, that should really mean something.
The Process in Depth

Now let's take a look at the form and some terms you'll need to know to make this process as simple as possible.  Please be advised, this form is not meant to be confusing, simply to enhance the accuracy of the Trade-In Offer.  Just like the rest of our website, Handy Chevrolet believes that educated consumers are happy consumers.  We don't believe in pulling the wool over your eyes, and the guarantee you get from AutoTrader enhances our already stellar reputation in that vein.

Step 1:  How to Get to Handy Chevrolet's AutoTrader Trade-In Guarantee Form

<-- See this form to the left?  That's the first step!  As said, we have these everywhere: on our Home Page, every vehicle page you'll come across, and more.  There should never be a problem finding this, or our Internet Manager isn't doing his job properly!

Step 2:  The Appraisal Form

This is where the process can get a bit tricky, or rather than tricky perhaps a bit intimidating.  But don't worry; you only have to fill out what you know!  The more you can discern, the more accurate your quote will be, but if you didn't know the style or whether or not your alloys were aftermarket or Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), our skill Appraisers will be able to help you out!  To be clear, the AutoTrader Trade-In Offer Form actually requires all the information to be input by you, but there is always a "do not know" option for something that may not be obvious--exterior color, for example, does not have a "do not know" choice, naturally.

Now let's take a look at the different categories and some examples of questions you will be asked (please note, this is a section of questions, CLICK HERE to view the entire form).

1.  Vehicle Description

  • VIN (this one is optional)
  • Vehicle year/make/model/style
  • Mileage
  • Exterior/Interior color
  • Are you the original owner?  Is the title clean?  Is the history report clean?
  • Are service records available?
  • Was the vehicle ever used as a rental?

2.  Options and Defects

  • Select the boxes [check boxes] next to factory installed options.
  • Does the vehicle have aftermarket equipment [non-OEM]?
  • Are there any exterior/interior defects, repaired or not repaired?
  • Is there any mechanical or frame damage?
  • [Each "yes" expands and allows you to elaborate on your answer]

3.  Contact Information

  • First/Last name
  • Email address
  • Telephone number
  • Are you considering a replacement vehicle [check box]?
  • [If you're considering a replacement, a CarFinder form will pop up]

4.  Review

  • Most importantly:  be sure your contact information and email address is 100% accurate!
  • Review all your answers--make sure they're correct for maximum amount!
  • Click the "edit" hyperlink to the left of each area to edit that particular area without starting over
  • At the bottom, there is an area to write anything you feel will give a better perception of your vehicle (example: water damage was only on back seat, passenger side)

Other Options and Information

While we strongly recommend you take advantage of this great, innovative feature we at Handy Chevrolet have implemented just for you, there are other options.

If you are short on time, you can always call our store and get a quick quote.  What the quick quote does, is gives you a ballpark estimate of what your vehicle's worth.  Be advised, though, the quick quote is by no means a guarantee!  The only way to take advantage of the guarantee from AutoTrader is to follow the above outlined method.

If your time is short, though, you can call Handy Chevrolet and we can do a VIN or Make/Model quick quote.

  • VIN-Based Quick Quote:  Supply a Handy Chevrolet Representative with your VIN (vehicle identification number), your vehicle type, mileage, interior and exterior color, and your contact information.
  • Make/Model-Based Quick Quote:  Submit to our Sales team your vehicle year, make, model, style, mileage, interior and exterior color, and your contact information.
After these quick answers are given, you'll be asked about some major inclusions in your vehicle such as a/c, radio, seating, etc, and if you have said features you check the box.  And that's it--you will have your quick quote.  Not to reiterate too frequently, but we need to stress that this is not a method by which Handy Chevrolet nor AutoTrader can guarantee the quote.  The guarantee only applies to the longer method as above.
The Inspection Checklist

We have one last bit of information for you folks:  the inspection.  So you can obtain a virtual doctorate in the realm of the AutoTrader Trade-In Guarantee available exclusively at Handy Cars, please take a quick look at the inspection information that we will use to appraise your vehicle when giving you the final appraisal.  After we receive the information you submit and you come in with your AutoTrader guarantee, we will use these sheets shown below to go over your AutoTrader appraisal to get the exact amount.
